SAR’s exclusive field trips offer “behind-the-scenes” opportunities with outstanding guides. 
A recent trip to Taos had us touring artist Nicholai Fechin’s home, walking through the Taos graveyard with “raconteur” professor Larry Torres, and enjoying a private performance with flutist Robert Mirabal of Taos Pueblo. Other field trips offer opportunities to explore archaeological sites in Chaco Canyon, participate in the Crownpoint Rug Auction, and explore the artifact vaults of Pecos National Historical Park.

Lectures
The SAR lecture series offers diverse and thought-provoking presentations from the world’s premier authorities. An illustrated calendar poster describing the series is mailed to all members in the fall and mailings announce each lecture in advance. Monthly SPARKS talks feature off-beat topics on Southwest history, anthropology, and art.
Indian Arts Research Center
With its magnificent collection of Southwest Native American art, the Indian Arts Research Center is an outstanding cultural and educational resource. The vaults house more than 12,000 items of pottery, textiles, jewelry, katsinas, basketry, and paintings. The collection reflects a wish to preserve Southwest Indian art, to facilitate scholarly research, and to foster innovation among indigenous artists. With advance reservations, members receive free docent-led tours of the collection.
SAR Press
SAR Press publishes scholarly works arising from SAR’s programs and books of popular interest on the life and arts of peoples of the Southwest. Members receive a 20% discount on all SAR publications. Certain membership levels also include the chance to select a free book or books from the SAR Press catalog.
Annual Review: Creativity and Research at SAR
Much more than a staid accounting of activities, this publication is a dynamic presentation of the state of knowledge and creativity about the human experience. The Annual Review profiles people and events at the School during the year.
Invitations to Field Trips and Special Events
Members receive announcements to go on field trips—a popular perk of SAR membership. The higher levels of membership receive priority notice and special invitations to attend other events at SAR.
Access to SAR's Library
The Catherine McElvain Library has a strong collection on the history of archaeology, ethnology, physical anthropology, and linguistics. Individual workspaces and a current journals browsing area are available for SAR Members, who also enjoy loan privileges at the Library.
