Kevin Navasie
1997 Dubin Fellow

The 1997 Dubin Fellowship was awarded to Kevin Navasie. Kevin is a traditional man from Hopi First Mesa who weaves Yucca ring baskets and wicker baby cradles.
Kevin resided at the School's Marge Lambert House during his tenure, June 16 to August 16. This residency allowed Kevin to spend a concentrated period of time weaving baskets. In addition he also studied the School's basketry collection and those at other local museums, and assisted the Indian Arts Research Center staff in planning the November 1997 Southwest Indian Basketry Convocation.
Kevin comes from a long line of established potters, painters, basket weavers, and kachina carvers. Kevin is currently enrolled in the Museum Studies Program at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
