Summer Scholar Fellowships
Summer scholar fellowships are awarded to five or six scholars in anthropology and related fields to pursue research or writing projects that promote understanding
of human behavior, culture, society, and the history of
anthropology. Both humanistically-and scientifically-oriented scholars are encouraged to apply.
Summer scholars are provided with a small stipend, a rent-free apartment
and office on campus, an allowance account, library support, and other benefits during an eight-week session, from June 15-August 10. Shorter terms are available.
The Summer Scholar Program is funded by the Ethel-Jane Westfeldt Bunting Foundation, the William Y. and Nettie K. Adams Fellowship in the History of Anthropology, the
Arroyo Hondo Grants Program, and the School for Advanced Research.
The application deadline is December 15. All applications
must be received by this date to be considered for the next summer scholar
session. Awards will be announced within
eight weeks.
Applications must include the following:
- Cover Sheet (downloadable)
- An abstract, not to exceed 150 words, describing the purpose, goals, and objectives of the project.
- A proposal, no more than 4 double-spaced pages in length. The proposal should describe what is to be accomplished during the summer session, the status of the applicant's research on the topic, and the significance of the work.
- A short bibliography, not to exceed 1 page, of references cited in proposal.
- A curriculum vitae, not to exceed 4, single-spaced pages.
- Names and contact information for three references.
