A critical gap in knowledge about the physical activity and dietary patterns of low-income urban dwellers is addressed in this chapter on the physical activity of 124 Colombian women, which will be published in Diet and Nutrition of Poor Women: A Case Study from Cali, Colombia.

This dissertation is based on an ethnographic study of women who run a community-based school for underprivileged children in Varanasi and the ways they are challenging assumptions about women's role in society.
